For Elise, our front office colleague, a rainy day doesn't have to be fully scheduled at all. She would rather calmly walk through Ghent, stop by a few small boutiques along the way, and then plop down at WAY for coffee and something tasty.

"It is often the smallest and simplest things that can make a person happy."

A tip that works well on a day with variable weather. Use a dry period to walk around the city and discover shops, and seek out a coffee bar during the next shower. Don't feel like moving on right away? Bring a book and just sit a little longer.

WAY has various locations in Ghent. In the center, you will find, among other things, a branch in Jakobijnenstraat, where you can get specialty coffee and pastries on site. Additionally, WAY Volder is located on Voldersstraat with a bookstore on the first floor.

When the rain is pouring down and a city walk really isn't an option, Angelique, our HR colleague, has a completely different suggestion: Sparkx Gent.

"Very cool for both big and small, with family as well as friends. It's fun and you're also being sporty. The VR devices are especially a real experience!"

At Sparkx Gent, you can try out various sports and experiences. Moreover, you don't have to set aside an entire day: there are tickets available for one, two, and four hours, as well as day tickets.

Angelique usually chooses four o'clock herself. After that, she immediately makes an evening of it by going out to eat with her family. This tip is especially useful if you want to fill a larger part of a rainy afternoon instead of just sheltering somewhere for an hour.

After coffee, chocolate, or an active afternoon, a rainy day, according to Merel, our banqueting manager, should especially end pleasantly. She has two favorite addresses for this.

The first is Win in the Burgstraat, a small-scale wine bar in the historic center. You can discover natural wines and order some of the bar bites. Extra special is that they open on shopping Sunday, every 1^e Sunday of the month, organize 'Salty Sunday' and then you can get an oyster with your wine for €1. Don't like oysters, just like Merel? Then she recommends the bitterballen as a perfect substitute.

Not wine but especially a craving for comfort food? Then Merel sends you to Edgar Cheese bar. That's what it's all about, as the name suggests, cheese. Think of aged cheeses, cheese fondue, and raclette. The cheese bar is open in the evenings from Tuesday to Saturday.

"Raclette, fondue, a cheese board..." Merel actually didn't need more explanation. Especially when it's cold and wet outside, it's not hard to understand why this is one of her favorite places.
