The Green Key is the international quality mark for companies in the tourism and recreation sector that are seriously and verifiably concerned with environmental care in the company. Van der Valk Hotel Ghent also wants to actively contribute to better environmental care and sustainability with the aim of obtaining a Green Key certificate. That is why we are committed to do more for the environment than the laws and regulations require of us.

Environmental policy statement

Both the management and all employees of Van der Valk Hotel Ghent take it upon themselves to control the environmental burden on the one hand and to limit the environmental risks on the other.

A structural part of our company objectives is the care for the environment.

All hotel employees therefore undertake to carry out their tasks in accordance with the established procedures within our company policy.

We comply with Flemish environmental laws and regulations, but we also want to go a step further. This includes the following:

Van der Valk Hotel Ghent registers water and energy consumption. Based on this data, we can then continuously improve the infrastructure, but also the policy, and make it more economical.

For example, all our showers are now equipped with energy-saving heads, while maintaining the same level of comfort, and all our toilets have an adapted water regulation.

We are also committed to minimising waste and reducing the impact on air, water and soil resulting from our operations through an effective environmental management system.

As part of this, we also train our employees to help care for the environment.

We also try to raise awareness among our guests by, for example, drawing their attention to the use of towels.

In order to apply our policy consistently and everywhere in the hotel, Van der Valk Hotel Ghent has decided to introduce the required measures within the framework of the Green Key.

Van der Valk Hotel Ghent sees Corporate Social Responsibility as an important part of sustainable growth. This means that we take our responsibility in society by applying CSR in words, in creative proposals, in solutions and with responsible behaviour.

Van der Valk Hotel Ghent has a preventive safety policy with the aim of zero accidents at work.

It goes without saying that the guests are also treated and welcomed in a human-friendly and dignified manner. It goes without saying that their safety is also a priority during their stay in our hotel.

2. PLANET

Van der Valk Hotel Ghent respects the environment, the surroundings and nature. For this reason, it complies with all applicable national environmental laws and regulations.

  • Quotations, invoices and confirmations as much as possible digital and not by post or on paper
    Printing is kept to a minimum
  • Only environmentally friendly produced chlorine-free paper is used
  • For our printing work, we only cooperate with a certified company in the field of Corporate Social Responsibility. For example, the inks used are vegetable and the use of alcohol in the printing process is kept to a minimum
  • No copies of ID card or passport at check-in hotel
